Hale Music Ensembles

The Nathan Hale Music Department strives to provide a comprehensive and challenging musical experience for every student. We value high music expectations, personalized instruction, and opportunities for creative expression in a variety of different musical styles.

WIND ENSEMBLE students develop their rehearsal, sight-reading, intonation, tone production, leadership and teamwork skills. Participants have many performance opportunities that include chamber music, state solo & ensemble festivals, and performing in the Pep Band at NHHS sporting events.

JAZZ BAND members learn about jazz music and improvisation through rehearsal and performance. This ensemble performs often and travels to festivals in and around the Northwest. Members of this ensemble also form small jazz combos with additional performance opportunities. This class meets during Zero Period. Audition required.

VOCAL JAZZ is an advanced choir that explores the jazz idiom from Freddie Hubbard to The New York Voices. Vocal Jazz students perform at many venues & festivals around the continental U.S.. This class meets during Zero Period. Audition required.

CONCERT ORCHESTRA performs a range of music from classics, of the string repertoire, to more modern styles. Ensemble members have opportunities to participate in chamber music and attend state solo and ensemble festivals. On occasion, Wind Ensemble members work with the strings to create a full orchestra!

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA is an advanced ensemble open to 11th and 12th grade students. Audition required. Students planning to audition must have been in Concert Orchestra in grades 9–10.

CONCERT CHOIR is open to all students who desire to learn how to sing independently and with others. This ensemble performs classical, gospel, and pop music. No previous singing experience is required for entry into this ensemble. If you have always wanted to give singing a try, this ensemble is for you.

DRUMLINE is for any percussionist or musician, with or without experience, who is interested in participating in a performance ensemble. Students will learn the basics of rhythms and apply their new knowledge towards high energy performances.

PIANO LAB  is for anyone wanting to learn to play the piano. This course is designed for students with little or no previous music training. No performance required.
